Care tips

Everything about the right care of thujas

Good to know about the Thuja Smaragd. Christian Plangger shares his exclusive tips about these popular little trees. He draws on years of experience and knows what matters, so that your thujas give you joy for many years, grow wide and stand bright green in your garden.

Planting time

The optimal planting time for thujas is between mid-March and mid-November. One important point should be noted, however: thujas planted in summer need considerably more watering than in spring or autumn.

The right care

The right pruning of the thuja is essential! I distinguish between maintenance pruning while the plant is growing and fine shaping for the lasting result of a hedge. I am happy to offer this service too. Care is needed when fertilising - and here, too, I have good and affordable fertilisers.

Pest control

The main pest in our area is often the cockchafer grub in the first two years, which, as with other plants, attacks the roots. Where this beetle occurs, I recommend using fungus-infused barley, which is added during planting. Once the plant has taken root well, it is no longer a problem.

Growth guarantee

We give a growth guarantee on plantings we carry out ourselves - provided the plants receive proper care after planting. What that means in practice is described in our care tips.
